On 3-7 March 2025, 18 Global EbA Fund projects from across the Asia-Pacific region participated in a workshop in Bangkok, Thailand. On 3 April 2025, the Nepal Development Research Institute (NDRI) and HelpAge International, together with IUCN's Senior Gender Programme Manager participated in a webinar exploring how to effectively bring together people and ecosystems in climate adaption, with a particular focus on gender. The webinar was hosted by the Global EbA Fund. Gender norms, roles and relations have a significant impact on access to and agency over resources, information, knowledge and decisions. This results in unequal contributions to addressing the root causes of climate change and exposes people to different degrees of vulnerability and resilience to the exacerbating impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss. Hence, exploring these gender relations in the context of EbA is critical. 23% of the globe’s mangroves, found in Indonesia, are being threatened by coastal development, resource extraction, deforestation, and aquaculture. The Global EbA Fund-supported Kalimantan Mangrove Shrimp Project by Blueyou offered shrimp farmers economic incentives to replant mangroves, helping restore coastal ecosystems while strengthening community resilience to climate change. In Northeast Mexico, where over 230,000 people rely on cattle ranching for livelihoods, climate change is threatening vital grasslands and scrublands with more frequent fires and droughts. A Global EbA Fund project led by WWF México is helping small-scale ranchers build climate resilience across the livestock supply chain—safeguarding both food security and rural economies. Read more
