Reception – Pecha Kucha on Rio Synergies: Connecting Locally Led Action with Global Agendas for Scaling Impact

Date: August 20, 2026
Time: 19:00 – 21:00
Location: IUCN Pavilion, Blue Zone, UNCCD COP17, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
How can locally led action help shape global solutions to the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation?
This interactive evening reception brings together practitioners, policymakers, researchers and development partners to explore how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can bridge the three Rio Conventions and accelerate integrated action across land, climate and biodiversity. Through a series of fast-paced Pecha Kucha presentations, speakers will share practical experiences and lessons from the field, demonstrating how locally led initiatives are delivering measurable impacts while informing policy and investment at national and global levels.
Hosted by the IUCN Climate Change and Energy Transition Team and the IUCN Centre for Policy and Law, the reception will showcase three complementary initiatives—CBA SCALE+, the Global EbA Fund and the ENACT Partnership—illustrating how community action, innovative financing and global policy collaboration work together to scale Nature-based Solutions.
Following the presentations, participants are invited to a networking reception designed to foster new partnerships, encourage knowledge exchange and strengthen collaboration among organisations working to advance Rio Convention synergies.
The reception will open with welcome remarks from senior representatives of IUCN and the Rio Convention COP Presidencies.
It is open to policymakers, practitioners, researchers, donors, civil society organisations, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, private sector representatives, and all stakeholders interested in advancing Nature-based Solutions and strengthening collaboration across the Rio Conventions.
