Building coastal resilience globally through the Global Green-Gray Community of Practice
Project Information
The Global Green-Gray Community of Practice (G3CoP) strengthens collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building to advance the mainstreaming and scaling of green-gray infrastructure (GGI) and ecosystem-based adaptation in coastal and urban contexts. The project connects practitioners, policymakers, and financiers to promote integrated, nature-positive infrastructure solutions that enhance climate resilience, biodiversity outcomes, and long-term sustainability.
Project Update
To date, the project has focused on (i) knowledge-sharing and capacity-building; (ii) strengthening the G3CoP network and building strategic partnerships; and (iii) advancing technical and policy-relevant guidance. Key activities include a workshop held in June 2025 in Northeast Brazil, in partnership with the Federal University of Paraíba; the development of a policy brief on national-level frameworks for enabling GGI and NbS; and technical and fundraising support for early-stage coastal resilience interventions in Brazil. The G3CoP also established itself as a key knowledge partner of governments and institutions working towards building coastal resilience through natural approaches, such as in the Belém to Busan roadmap, and expanded its presence across major climate convenings.
1. Advanced Policy Guidance on Green-Gray Infrastructure: Finalized a policy brief on national policy frameworks for enabling green-gray infrastructure, informed by multiple rounds of practitioner and expert review.
2. Strengthened Policy Dialogues: Deepened collaboration with government counterparts in Brazil and Liberia, supporting policy dialogue and technical capacity building on ecosystem-based adaptation.
3. Supported Tailored Climate Resilience Solutions: Supported early design and fundraising efforts for a coastal resilience intervention in northern Brazil.
4. Increased Outreach: Expanded practitioner outreach by embedding G3CoP activities in climate weeks and sector-specific events, reaching engineering, planning, and infrastructure audiences.
5. Built Capacity of Emerging Professionals: Hosted a workshop for students and early-career engineers, architects and urban planners on Just Climate Adaptation and Green-Gray Infrastructure, in partnership with the Federal University of Paraíba and the Instituto Voz Popular in João Pessoa/Brazil.
